The civic body also issued fines upto Dh5,000 as penalties for the owners of such houses who violated the municipality's regulation. Around 800 owners of such houses in Al Ramailah, Al Rashidiya, Al Bustan, Al Nauiamia, Al Zahara and Humaidiya were warned and given a period of time to move the labourers to industrial areas.

The Ali Al Hamrani. Director General Of Ajman Municipality told Khaleej Times that the inspection campaign targeting the bachelors' houses will be further intensified after Eid Al Fitr in coordination with Ajman Police.

Saif Salim Al Shamsi, Deputy Director of Ajman Municipality, said the municipality had stepped up inspections to force the labourers to move to the industrial areas. Many of the owners and companies of these houses had been warned earlier and given a period of two months to find alternative accommodation in the industrial areas. After they failed to abide by regulation, the municipality ordered cutting of their electricity connection. The owners of these houses did not take any step to force the labourers leave the accommodations after the expiry of the two months period given to them .

“The municipality will take further action against them if they refused to abide by the civic body' regulation,” he stressed

Al Shamsi explained that a number of companies rent out traditional houses for its labourers in several residential areas in Ajman instead of establishing camps for them in the industrial areas. These labourers who live in residential areas among families cause disturbance, discomforts, lack of security and peace. To stop renting residential houses as labour camps, the Municipality had issued circulars asking the owners not to rent their properties to companies to accommodate labourers in the residential areas.
