The repertoire comprises acts by an Ethiopian contortionist, whose flexible body never fails to inspire awe, jugglers skilled at juggling even things like tables, Ukrainian twin brothers who perform amazing balancing acts together and a Russian gymnast who performs somersaults.

All the artists say they started training between 10 and 13 years of age.

The Ethiopian contortionist, Kiros, known as Afro Twister, said that at the age of 10, he decided to train at the School of Circus in Ethiopia, with a desire to become a contortionist and magician. “I am 22 now and I have been to many European countries,” he said, adding that he finds the audiences at festival venue, Sahara Centre, very encouraging.

Twenty-three-year-old twins Ukrainians Vladyslav and Levgenii are talented gymnasts and acrobats. Both started training at age 12 and 13 respectively after seeing twin acrobats performing in their city. “Since that day, we both made up our minds to do the same thing, and we succeeded,” Vladyslav said.

Levgenii said their first foreign performance was in England, followed by Russia and Japan. Popularly known as Duo-Polonskie, the twins perform acrobatic and hand-balancing acts at the event.

Graduating from the circus school studio of Odessa state circus, the twins attained second place in ‘The Young Circus of Ukraine’ show. They have been practising for the last 11 years and have been performing on stage for seven years now. The brothers said, “This is our first visit to Dubai and we are thoroughly enjoying ourselves here”

Anthony Shalhoub, a Lebanese coordinator of Event Box, told Khaleej Times that the circus show, which will be on till February 28, is free.
