The Sharjah police in coordination with forensic laboratory experts are investigating the cause of the fire. The blaze which started at 10 pm was put out by fire fighters from Sharjah, Ajman, Dubai and the armed forces within two hours.
The operation was supervised by Col Salih Ali Al Mutawa, Director-General of the Sharjah Police Department, and Brigadier Gharaib Shabban, Director-General of Sharjah Civil Defence.
Speaking To Khaleej Times, Brig Shabban said that operations room received a call at 10pm and in less than five minutes five teams of fire fighters reached the site. They found it difficult to control the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other warehouse and outlets in the vicinity. “We had to call Ajman and Dubai Civil Defence teams for assistance. The teams succeeded in isolating the warehouse complex and preventing the flames from extending to other warehouses,” he said. The fire fighters used water and foam which helped in putting out the fire which had spread quickly as one of the warehouses contained plastic material and petroleum products.
