Speaking at the reception, AUS Chancellor Dr Winfred Thompson said: "Dr Amr Abel-Hamid served the university with distinction for his four years as Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs." The AUS Chancellor added "Dr Abdel-Hamid was involved in hiring most of the faculty members and helped develop most of the academic programmes. His impact on AUS has been enormous."
Commenting on the occasion, Dr Abel-Hamid said: "My years at AUS have been truly exciting, working under the guidance of Dr Shaikh Sultan to help build a quality institution of higher learning in Sharjah. I look forward to further cooperation with the university for many years to come."
On behalf of the AUS Board of Trustees, the faculty and the staff, Dr Thompson and Faculty Senate President Nada Mourtada presented Dr Abel-Hamid with a plaque, signed by His Highness, in appreciation for his service to the university. Attending the reception were senior university officials and members of the faculty.
