ABU DHABI — The General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Auqaf (endowments) has approved the payment of school fees of children of all imams, muezzins and preachers nationwide regardless of the number of offspring they have, Dr Mohammed Mattar Al Kaabi, Director-General of the authority, has announced.

The authority, he said, will pay the school fees of these children up to Grade XII. Dr Al Kaabi called upon the imams, muezzins and preachers to pass on the legal documents required for it as fast as possible to complete the procedures.

Usually, the school fees of only two children of the employees in the government sector are paid by the department concerned, but Aufaq will pay the school fees of all children of the beneficiaries across the country.

The authority took this decision to enable the imams, muezzins and preachers to do their duties without any worries.

Dr Al Kaabi said the imam is the first person responsible for the mosque and its cleanliness. The imam should also maintain the mosque’s library and prohibit use of any printed publications in mosques unless he obtains an approval from the authority.

He pointed out that the authority has finalised the printing of 100,000 copies of the Holy Quran to be distributed in all mosques in the country.

He urged the imams to collect the old and torn copies of the Quran and forward them to the authority.

“Any technical alterations made to the mosques the authority’s authorisation will not be accepted. The donation of carpets and electrical items must conform to the standard specifications.” Dr Al Kaabi said.

As for the unified call to prayer (Azan), Dr Al Kaabi said the imams must inspect the transmission devices of the Unified Azan. In case the device develops some snag preventing it from receiving the transmission signals from the satellite, the muezzin of the mosque should notify the authority about it, and give the call to prayer within two minutes after the set Azan timing.
