Interested people would have to bid for these homes at an auction to be organised next month.

Ahmad Mahmood Ahmad, Head of the Historical Buildings Section of the Dubai Municipality, said the move intends to make people aware of the ancient Arab world. He pointed out that the move would also give a boost to the tourism industry in Dubai.

“The Section is going ahead with this plan very seriously. Till now, some 40 premises have been rented for offices, coffee shops and even for residential use. In addition to this, there are around three motels too. Anyone interested can book a room in these motels,” he said.

Ahmad said people staying in these buildings would get a feel of the Arab culture. “Most of these buildings have been built before 1950. And we have conserved and restored them,” he added.

The bidding programme would be organised next month, the officials said.
