As India prepares to celebrate its 69th Republic Day, Aster DM Healthcare reflects on the country's evolution since its first Republic Day in 1950. Economic, political, social, and cultural developments have all played a part in transforming the secular nation into what it is today, and there is a sense of pride that envelopes the country as it takes a moment to commemorate its accomplishments.
For Aster DM Healthcare, such an occasion also serves as a reminder of the developing healthcare industry in India. Recognising the significance of this day, the organisation pauses to discuss some of its own proudest moments in shaping the current and future healthcare landscape in India.
Since its foundation in 1987, Aster DM Healthcare has dedicated its resources to developing a healthcare delivery pipeline that responds to the need for medical advancements, specialist offerings and quality healthcare offerings in the regions in which it operates.
For nearly five years, Aster DM Healthcare has been working to establish a speciality hospital in the tribal district of Wayanad, one of the least developed areas in Kerala that lacked advanced healthcare facilities. And today, as we celebrate the Motherland, we are proud to have brought this project to fruition. Aster Wayanad Specialty Hospital (AWSH) opened its doors in early January 2018, delivering quality care right to the doorsteps of those who need it most.
The hospital is located within access of neighbouring rural areas that also have no access to speciality healthcare, offering global standards and uncompromising quality in cardiology, neurology, gastroenterology, urology and plastic surgery with more specialities to be added.
In an effort to lead educational institutions in offering learning options to individuals residing in some of the more underdeveloped areas in India, Aster has also established DM Wayanad Institute of Medical Sciences (DM WIMS) in Wayanad that operates a medical college, nursing college and a pharmacy college. DM WIMS represents Aster's vision to not only provide every individual with quality and affordable healthcare options, but to contribute to the nation's continued growth. To date, the institution has seen the enrolment of 1,280 students.
In addition to its presence in Wayanad, Aster operates a number of other medical facilities across five states in India with 11 multi-speciality hospitals and six clinics. Ultimately, Aster's contributions to healthcare delivery have had a resounding impact on the nation's continued growth and transformation.
Making healthcare accessible and affordable to all segments of society is what allows Aster to stand out among its peers.
30 Years of Treating You Well

Our promise of "We'll Treat You Well" is a commitment not just to our patients, but also to the entire society. We believe in going beyond the scope of business and giving back to the communities we serve. We have launched several non-profit campaigns to help improve the health of society. In 2017, commemorating our 30th Anniversary, we launched Aster Volunteers - a global initiative that connects those in need with volunteers who wish to help. The multi-layered programme was a profound success with close to 8,000 volunteers lending a hand to those in need. More than 11,355 patients availed of free surgeries and investigations across India, Philippines and the Middle East. In total, Aster Volunteers initiatives and programmes have bettered the lives of more than 497,000 people in India and the Middle East.
All through our journey from a single clinic to an international healthcare provider with 316 establishments across nine countries, we have remained true to our core values of excellence, compassion, integrity, respect, passion, and unity. We will continue our relentless efforts to prioritise the well-being of people, be it patients, employees, partners or the community in general and making a positive impact on communities at home and abroad.
