Mona Al Marri, General Secretary of the Arab Journalism Award said, "The number of entries for this year reflects the growing regional interest and appeal for the Arab Journalism Award as one of the most respected journalism awards in the region."

"This year, to encourage even greater participation we are conducting road shows and briefings for journalists in the Arab world. The road shows have begun in Egypt and coincide with the tenth meeting for the Arab Union of Journalists (October 2-5) which is being attended by 250 leading writers and journalists from the Arab world in addition to a number of regional and international media organisations." The first Arabic awards for journalistic excellence were instituted in 1999. Each of the award categories carries a cash prize, with the total prize value of the awards estimated to be $230,000.
