Speaking to Khaleej Times, Abu Omar, General Manager of Metro Taxi, said that the offer was made to the brother and the relative of the deceased after the funeral was over, and the body was being taken to Pakistan for burial.

He said that nothing in this regard had been confirmed yet, and the offer had been made to any eliglible son of Khan who was also willing to work for the Metro Taxi.

Omar also said that the company had offered to give a full month's salary to the widow and children of Khan.

"We have also asked the brother to furnish us with the details of Khan's bank account in Pakistan so that the money can be transferred," he said. "We have also requested Khan's relatives to provide us with details of the hospital bills of Khan's wife, as we are ready to bear all the cost incurred on her treatment," he added.

Earlier last week, unknown people murdered Khan while on duty. Grieving friends and family members said Khan was decent and devout, and had no enemies.

The taxi driver has left behind an ill wife and nine children who depended on him for their living. Police have already made several early arrests in the case, but remain tight-lipped about their investigations.

Khan is the seventh taxi drivers to be killed in the UAE in the past three years. Last year, two Sharjah National taxi drivers had been murdered by robbers. And in 2003, four Pakistani drivers had been killed by an Afghan national.
