Grand Shopping Mall will house the area's first hypermarket, the Grand Supermarket that covers over 50,000 square feet. Among the products on offer include electronic appliances, stationery, readymade garments, footwear, accessories, perfume, watches, cosmetics, food products, fresh fruits and vegetables and household goods.

"Al Quoz is not only an industrial and commercial hub, it has a large residential community that is growing with each passing day. Surprisingly, there has been no shopping mall experience for the area's residents who had to depend on groceries and small department stores for their needs," Mr Nandakumar said.

He added: "A number of prestigious projects are coming up in the vicinity, and the need for a mall that offers the residents of the region a choice of products and services is of crucial importance. We hope gain from the first-mover advantage and build on a loyal client base."

Mr Nandakumar stressed that the decision to open the mall was taken after undergoing a market survey to assess its feasibility and understand the requirements of residents in the area. "We plan to open five more additional outlets in Dubai within the next two to three years," he told reporters.

The mall will host Joy Alukkas Group, UAE Money Exchange, Dr Moopen's Medical Centre, MedShop, Deira Travel Agency, Rose Studio, Emirates Opticals and Gulf Oasis Electronics. Other facilities include postal and typing services, salons, laundry shop, Internet cafes and specialist outlets dealing in watches, cosmetics, perfume and footwear.

Identifying the various populations in the locality, Grand Supermarket will have dedicated products for the entire Arab and Asian community.
