A local resident on his morning stroll heard wails and found the child in a box. The infant was wrapped in a blanket and a feeding bottle was found beside him.
The man contacted the Al Madina Police station and the baby was rushed to Al Qasimi Hospital. An official at the hospital said the baby was healthy. ‘‘He has recovered and we have given him the necessary medical care and also vaccine shots.’’
Naimah Al Nakhi, head of the social services section at Al Qasimi Hospital, said the hospital had opened a medical file for the baby to ensure he receives proper medical treatment. ‘‘A health card was also issued and the child has been referred to the local child care centre,’’ she said.
Last month, two babies were found abandoned in Al Badea and Abu Shagara areas of Sharjah.
