The two-day event, being held at Madinat Jumeirah, has been organised by the Dubai Press Club.

While welcoming Shaikh Mohammad, Mona Al Marri, Chairperson of Dubai Press Club, said, “The Arab Media Forum is taking rapid strides towards achieving the goals that Your Highness has set.”

“Your Highness had envisaged the forum to be an arena of knowledge, a free avenue for the exchange of ideas and expertise, as well as a place for experts to share successful media experiences. The forum’s only goal is to serve the Arab media and regional journalists,” she said.

Al Marri stated that the Arab Media Forum has evolved into an annual event that encourages members of the media to interact without prejudice or pre-conceived notions.

This year, the forum enters a new era with the enhancement of the role of Dubai Press Club to accelerate the development of Arab media, she pointed out, adding that DPC would release its first annual report on the status of media in the Arab world.

“The report will focus on media management as well as capacity development through media modules in universities and media training sessions,” she added.

The forum is being attended by over 500 delegates including editors-in-chief of major regional and international print and broadcast media, as well as journalists, columnists, academics, analysts, commentators and senior government officials.

At a gala ceremony today, Shaikh Mohammed will honour the winners of the Arab Journalism Awards at the Madinat Jumeirah. The ceremony will be attended by over 1,000 delegates including key Arab and international media experts, diplomats, academics and government officials.

Joseph Samaha, prominent Lebanese journalist, will also be honoured posthumously for his outstanding contributions to Arabic media.

Samaha worked tirelessly as a member of the Arab Journalism Awards Board to establish the credibility and significance of the Award.

The Arab Journalism Awards will be presented in 13 categories, including Media Personality of the Year. The other 12 awards are for: Politics, Business, Investigative Journalism, IT, Best Columnist, Culture, Sports, Environment, Photo-Journalism, Caricature, Interview and Journalism for Children. Each category carries a cash prize. The total prize value of the awards is $235,000.
