The 57-year-old parliamentarian and chief of Rashtriya Lok Manch is out of danger and under observation, according to his friend Ajit Prasad who accompanied him.

The former Samajwadi Party leader, who was expelled from that party, was on a couple of days’ stopover in Dubai to attend private functions before flying to Singapore for a complete medical checkup at a hospital where he had undergone kidney treatment, Prasad told Khaleej Times.

He said Singh collapsed while they were proceeding to come out of the airport. “We were supposed to land here at 2.30pm. We landed after 3pm and this happened around 4pm. He fainted and he was virtually unconscious.”

Singh, whose recent years were mired in political controversies and corruption charges that landed him even in jail, suffered from hypoglycemia, said Prasad. “He was also under a lot of depression as his friends had betrayed him and let him down,” he said.

Singh required a wheel chair and was rushed to Mediclinic Welcare Hospital in an ambulance. “He was first admitted in the ICU and has been shifted to a special ward now. Doctors are trying to stabilise his sugar level. They have done many tests and some tests will be done tomorrow,” Prasad said from the hospital ward late evening.

Another close friend of Singh, who flew in from Kolkata, said it was likely that Singh would be flown to the Singapore hospital at the earliest.
