Work on the project, which started in May 2006, includes construction of a tunnel parallel to Shaikh Zayed Road and Al Soufoh Road, linking Umm Suqeim with Knowledge Village, as well as a bridge across Shaikh Zayed Road.

Engineer Maitha bin Adai, the CEO of Traffic and Roads Agency, said the bridge across Shaikh Zayed Road would be opened shortly.

The bridge, which links Al Barsha area with Al Soufoh area, consists of two lanes in each direction.

“This bridge is a vital part of a massive project extending 11km in total, and includes roads, a tunnel, traffic signals, roads lighting, protecting and diverting utility lines, as well as improving roads network in Al Soufoh area. The project will be completed by the end of November 2007,” she announced.
