A traffic committee in charge of chalking out plans for DSF 2005 suggested that certain roads be closed for a number of hours during DSF activities, and arrange for public transport vehicles parking lots. Among the measures proposed by the committee, headed by Lieutenant-Colonel (engineer) Hani Jamal Al Sawalhi, head of traffic engineering at the Dubai Traffic Police Department, is to close Al Rigga road to traffic between 4pm and 10pm on week days during DSF, and the closure timing could be extended to 2am on holidays and weekends.

“Closing Al Rigga road to traffic and having it restricted to pedestrians only will have positive results on the traffic situation that enhances visitor comfort. Early measures must be taken on Al Rigga road, as Al Muraggabat road (that runs parallel to Rigga) will not have DSF activities in 2005”, said Lt.-Col. Sawalhi. Major Mohammed Rashid Abdullah, head of traffic media section, urged the public to cooperate with police during DSF 2005.
