Al Quoz fire toll rises

DUBAI- Dubai Police took charge of the Al Quoz fire disaster site from Civil Defence personnel at 3:10pm yesterday, as the death toll from the tragedy rose to 10 with the discovery of more bodies. Human remains and bodies charred beyond recognition made it hard for forensic experts to figure out the number of those who perished in the tragedy, police said.

A man who approached police at the site of the fire inquiring about a missing brother who came to deliver goods to a godown in the vicinity was told the brother's vehicle had been destroyed beyond recognition and the delivery man was feared dead.

"This is a typical situation where we have to look into any possibility and search for human remains. It is not a factory or a place where there is a limited number of people. It is an area frequented by many people coming in or out," said an official.
