The awards are designed to recognise and encourage individual and institutional contributions to a multicultural Scotland in which religious diversity, cultural equality, social justice, and civilisation dialogue flourish.
The selection process emphasises the activities of individuals and organisations in many areas of contemporary Scottish life, including education, sports, healthcare, the media, and business.
The awards seek to recognise progress that has been made in relations between Scotland and the UAE, British-Arab understanding.
The selection for the awards will be based on nominations made to the Institute on bi-annual basis. The award panel will be chaired by the Chancellor of the Al Maktoum Institute.
The first award will be presented at a ceremony in Dundee on May 6, 2005, which will also mark the third anniversary of the official opening of the institute.
Scotland is a diverse, multicultural, and multi-religious society and the Al Maktoum Institute commends the Scottish Executive for its pro-active campaign to promote the concept of ‘One Scotland, Many Cultures’.
The award aims to promote further work and to reward the achievements of individuals and organisations in the development of good multicultural practice at all levels of Scottish society.
Through its efforts the awards seek to identify and encourage the efforts of many people in Scotland who share the Al Maktoum Institute’s vision for greater tolerance and understanding and engagement between people of different cultures, religions, and nations.
