The body of Mahmud Abdel Rauf al-Mabhuh, wrapped in a Hamas flag, was lowered into a grave at the Palestinian refugee camp of Yarmuk on the outskirts of the Syrian capital, where he had been based.

His son, Abdel Rauf al-Mabhuh, was among the mourners at the solemn ceremony who waved green flags and chanted: “There is no God but God and Mabhuh is God’s beloved.”

Palestinian leaders including Hamas political supremo Khaled Meshaal, Talal Naji of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command, and Abu Musa of the Fatah-Intifada attended but without making any statement.

Mabhuh “died a martyr in Dubai on January 20, 2010 in suspect circumstances,” Hamas said from its Gaza stronghold.
