An official from the Gardens Section in Al Ain Municipality said the park, spread over 15 hectares, is a combination of the old Public Garden and Al Jahli Fort Garden that will offer visitors a better view of the historical fort.

“The Al Ain Municipality has decided on a new system of signboards to mirror the area’s tourist heritage,” he added.

Besides 14 water fountains and coloured basins, Al Jahli Open Park has state-of-the-art lighting and decoration.

The park has a modern games facility that is designed to accommodate 200 children.

In addition to four lavatories, one of them for people with special needs, the park has seven main entrances, parking space for 500 cars and a separate tourist bus parking in front of the Jahli Park. The park also has special wide crosswalks for people with special needs.

The official said that the Al Ain Municipality has transformed the avenue linking Rotana Hotel with the garden in Al Jahli by conforming to specifications which enable visitors to get a good view of Al Jahli Fort regardless of the direction they are moving in.

He noted that special basalt and design elements have ensured that the street, considered one of the most important in Al Ain City on account of its strategic location in the downtown area, stayed true to its image.

It is worth mentioning that Al Jahli Fort, located near the Public Garden, was built by the late Shaikh Zayed bin Khalifa (Zayed, the First) in 1898 to retain the right of entry into the country. Because of its cylindrical tower, the fort is different from the standard squarish or oblongish structures of the other fortresses.
