She said the department had completed 65 per cent of the Sharjah Gate project after the removal of Al Khan Bridge, which would be replaced by the new Dh35 million Al Ittihad intersection project expected to be completed in October.

She said the cooperation extended by motorists travelling between Sharjah and Dubai in abiding by the traffic instructions and using the new diversion had contributed a great deal in meeting project deadlines.

The Sharjah Gate is being designed to be the main entry point to the emirate for the traffic coming from Abu Dhabi and Dubai. It is being constructed at a strategic location, which would ensure smooth flow of traffic.

She said the department had taken up the cloverleaf intersection project to ease traffic congestion from and to Sharjah under the bridge through two-lane road branching out into three exits.

Eng. Noman also pointed out that the Al Hubal Bridge will be replaced by a well-designed intersection which would be called King Faisal Intersection. Work on this project will begin immediately after the completion of the Sharjah Gate Project and Al Ittihad Intersection.

The project, which will be executed by a national contracting company, had already begun preparing for it in coordination with the department.
