The opening marks the completion of the Dh121 million worth project, which commenced construction in October 2006.

“The purpose of the Project is to improve and widen Jumeirah, Al Mina and Al Dhiyafa Roads as well as complement the Jumeirah Road Beautification Project” said Maitha bin Adai, CEO of RTA Traffic and Roads Agency.

“The Project covered improvements along Jumeirah Road starting from Union House to Rashid Port roundabout; the sector known as Dry Dock Road, and widening Al Mina Road to four lanes in each way in a sector extending 2 km. It also included improvements of Al Mina Road intersections with Al Dhiyafa and Al Wasl Roads, and construction of a pedestrian subway extending 45 meters near the front of the Dry Dock Gate,” she said.

“Both Al Dhiyafa and Al Mina Roads lead to Jumeirah, which is a superb residential and tourist area in Dubai. RTA attends to upgrading roads network to ease traffic pressure to match the nature of development of each area in the emirate,” the official added.

RTA is also considering opening the initial phase of Al Ittihad Road Widening Project before the end of February covering two tunnels in addition to the existing tunnels at HQ Interchange, she said.

“Completing these projects comes in the context of RTA plans to keep pace with the urbanisation drive, serve the development witnessed by the emirate, and meet the current and projected
requirements of population growth and expansion. This warrants construction of broad roads and bridges network, upgrading transport modes, and
improving traffic and roads systems,” she said.
