Another depot in the Al Rawiyah area will be ready by August next year, they added.
Issa Al Dossari, CEO of the Public Transport Agency at the RTA, said the Al Aweer bus depot is equipped with sophisticated machinery meant for maintenance works, and mechanical and electrical repairs.
“The workshop can easily accommodate double-decker and articulated buses,” said Dossari.
“The design of this station has been customised to meet the requirements of attending staff along with facilities they need in order to perform their jobs perfectly,” he added.
The Jebel Ali Depot has a capacity of 300 buses of all types. The station is equipped with 24 bays to accommodate 36 buses at a time to perform works such as washing, cleaning and refuelling. The station also has offices as well as residential units for 1,200 bus drivers, the official said.
“With the agency in the process of acquiring many new buses that will cover most parts of the emirate and also help passengers travelling on the Dubai Metro from September next year, these depots will be of much utility,” Dossari said.
