Speaking to Khaleej Times, an official from the civic body said that the project is the first of its kind in the Middle East.

"The road signs and name plates will be put in the tourist areas in the garden city of Al Ain like oases, Haffet Mountain, Green Mubazzarah, Ain Al Fayda in addition to fort areas in the city," said the official.

The project will enumerate the road signs and the internal side roads in Al Ain in addition to the newly-established underpasses, houses and farms. He added that after deep studies, the civic body has chosen six types of signboards that serve environment protection.

The official noted that environment protection is one of the most important objectives of the UAE authorities. Article 2 of the Federal Law No. 24 of 1999 has set out the aim of fighting all forms of pollution and avoid harmful immediate or long-term adverse effects resulting from planning for economical, agricultural or industrial or constructional development.
