Al Ain Air show proves a big tourism spinner

ABU DHABI — Al Ain Air show 2006 which entertained 120,000 fun-hungry spectators from across the country with dare-devil acrobatics for five days, has also proved a great tourism spinner putting the 'garden city' on the international tourist map.

The Higher Organising Committee succeeded in turning the show into a big family carnival as it synchronised with Al Adha Holidays. Many cultural, social, recreational and heritage-related activities were held, and family areas, kids‚ village, and all necessary facilities and services were provided.

Chairman of Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) Shaikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, in a statement yesterday, thanked the general public for their interest in the show which made it a success.

"Al Ain 2006 exceeded expectations and was a motivation for making more efforts in the next rounds," he said.

Worldwide participation involving 40 countries, massive crowds, high ranking organisation with 100 per cent national efforts, and extensive media coverage by local, Arab and international Press contributed to the excellence of Al Ain 2006‚ giving Al Ain the privilege to host the next rounds of the FAI World Grand Prix.

Shaikh Sultan bin Tahnoon extended his appreciation to all sponsors of Al Ain 2006.

Providing the Higher Organising Committee with all kinds of support, sponsors contributed to making the show a big world event, thanks to the cooperation from Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority and UAE Air Force and Air Defence and other departments.

"This air show is the most important event of its kind in the Arabian Gulf region and the entire Middle East. It has become a valuable opportunity to show to the world the wide-ranging prosperity of the United Arab Emirates and its capability to host the biggest world competitions and activities with distinguished organisation standards provided by well-trained and highly responsible national manpower in a way that highlights the modern image of Abu Dhabi Emirate and the entire country. The next rounds will even include more activities and some surprises; and making the current location of the show permanent would help develop the show in future and positively affect planning and organisation," Shaikh Sultan stated.
