Expect humid conditions tonight and Thursday morning, with a chance of mist forming in certain inland areas
The rules and standards laid down for buses and drivers of the 22 schools in the emirate will be enforced from the next academic year — 2010-2011. The rules have been prepared jointly by the Ajman Public Transport Corporation and the Ajman Education Zone with a view to ensuring the safety of students.
“The rules and standards which the corporation has approved makes it mandatory for the proprietors and drivers of the school buses to paint the vehicles yellow and write ‘School bus’ on both sides of the vehicle, both in Arabic and English,” said Abdul Karim Abdullah Al Abdool, Director-General of the Ajman Public Transport Corporation. The school’s name should be written on the driver’s door and if the bus is on lease, the name of the rental company should also be written. The bus should be in good running condition and air-conditioned with alert lights, and an electronic arm with the word ‘Stop’ should be on the right hand side of the driver.
The corporation has also asked the schools to appoint supervisors in all buses. — news@khaleejtimes.com
