The project was launched following the directives of Shaikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Ajman Department of Municipality and Planning (ADM P), to cope with the rapid development of the real estate sector being witnessed in the emirate.

Rashid Obaid Al Kabbi, Head of the Ajman GIS, said the centre will provide geographical data and applications to all local government departments to make use of them in enhancing the performance and planning in terms of services provision. He added that the GIS centre will make efforts in providing engineers of private establishments and departments with information about the owners of plots of lands and their sizes and borders. "It will also prepare land planning and facilitate the search for information."

The GIS will provide municipality inspectors with maps of all industrial and commercial companies and establishments that are being subjected to municipal inspections to make their job easy.

The GIS project is also aimed at launching a website that will provide a map to tourists, consultants and construction companies. It will also provide printed maps with various sizes to the public and tourists.

"Ajman will benefit immensely from the project as it is considered one of the fastest growing cities in the Emirates. Accurate terrain data will be used by various government departments as well as private companies like developers, planners and construction people. The data will soon be available with all government departments," he said.
