Ajman civic body launches drive to clean city streets

AJMAN — The Ajman municipality has launched a campaign to clean the streets of the city by removing discarded objects such as old furniture and abandoned vehicles.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Mohammed Yousif, Head of the Cleaning Section of the municipality, said that the municipality during the Ramadan month had intensified cleaning of roads and streets so as to let people celebrate Eid in a clean environment.

He said that the furniture shops had been instructed to remove their materials scattered all over the roads and streets or pay fines. In case of their failure to clear the streets, the old furniture would be confiscated and dumped in the municipality landfill.

He said the abandoned vehicles would be put up for auction 15 days after announcement in the newspapers.

Saif Salim Al Shamsi, Deputy Director of Ajman Municipality, said that several residents were spoiling the beauty of the buildings by stuffing their balconies with unwanted furniture. Stating the municipality was keen to improve the aesthetic look of the city, the official said Aajman's private and public buildings would be decorated. He said specials plans were also under way to plant trees and maintain lawns and gardens.

Stating that the municipality was making efforts to educate residents on the need to maintain cleanliness, the municipal official said the residents were free to offer their suggestions and complaints in this regard.
