The countdown for the new academic year has already begun with administrative and teaching staff of schools across the country on their way to report for duty on Saturday. Come September 3 and predictably the streets will be

teeming with traffic at certain hours in the morning and afternoons. The situation calls for coordinated action by Traffic departments, school administrations and municipalities.

Indeed, the matter is serious enough to necessitate holding a meeting of the Permanent Traffic Committee, which was formed under the chairmanship of Major-General (retd) Nasser Al Sayyid Abdul Razak which has been empowered

to take decisions and implement them swiftly to prevent a repetition of traffic snarls seen in previous years.
