45pc rise in smoke-free rooms at Dubai hotel

DUBAI — In what may be considered a significant effort in contributing to a more health-friendly environment in the local hotel industry, JW Marriott Hotel Dubai said that it has increased its smoke-free rooms to 45 per cent starting this month.

The announcement came almost a month after the Washington-based Marriott International, Inc. told the international Press that all its 2,300 hotels across the United States and Canada will become 100 per cent smoke-free by September this year. The hotel brands under Marriott International include JW Marriott, The Ritz-Carlton, Renaissance, Courtyard, Residence Inn, SpringHill Suites, Fairfield Inn, TownePlace Suites and Marriott ExecuStay.

Sharon Marett, Director of Marketing Communications and Public Relations of JW Marriott Hotel Dubai, told Khaleej Times that even prior to the Marriott International, Inc.'s announcement, their hotel has already been considering increasing its non-smoking rooms.
