Inaugurating the office, Shaikh Sultan bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), noted that this was a step which would further enhance efforts being made to market the emirate as a major holiday destination and investment hub.

"This step enhances Abu Dhabi's presence in European markets. The ADTA will work hard to showcase Abu Dhabi's potential as a holiday destination to the German and European public. The office will conduct its activities in Germany as well as in neighbouring German-speaking countries", said Shaikh Sultan.

ADTA is trying to increase German tourist arrivals by 15 per cent annually. "We have received encouraging signs from officials and companies in Europe, especially during the recently-concluded ITB Berlin, the world's top travel and tourism exhibition", explained Shaikh Sultan.

The opening ceremony was attended by Mohammed Ahmed Al Mahmoud, the UAE Ambassador to Germany and a large number of UAE and German officials, businessmen and representatives of tourism companies, travel agents and tour operators.

Al Mahmoud said on the occasion that ADTA's office in Germany as well as other countries will project Abu Dhabi's and the UAE's potential in the travel and tourism industry.

Mubarak Hamad Al Muhairi, Director General of ADTA, said the Frankfurt office will conduct a range of activities, including tens of small-size exhibitions in Germany.

Al Muhairi said that Germany is the "largest tourism-exporting country", and Abu Dhabi is a preferred destination for them.

He disclosed that the ADTA's initial plan was to open three offices abroad in the first three years after the authority's inception. The ADTA was set up some 14 months ago to spearhead tourism promotion efforts for the emirate.

"The availability of direct flights by Etihad to certain destinations provides facilities that enhance promotional efforts," he pointed out.
