The workshops are part of the ongoing Islamic art exhibition of Iranian scholar Naser Khalili’s collection at the Emirates Palace Hotel.

The 500 religious and secular art pieces on display cover all periods of Islam, starting as early as the 7th century, continuing with the great periods of Muslim art, the Safavid and Abbasid, and ending with the Mughal and European influences, up to the 20th century.

To help the public to better understand the meaning of these historic art pieces, the three workshops will focus on both the art and the historic value of calligraphy, Persian painting and ceramics in the Muslim context.

Ibn Al Bawab (calligraphy workshops) will be led by Emirati calligrapher Mohammed Mandi, who would introduce the audience to the art form, as well as its many different styles and techniques.

The workshops will take place from 12noon to 3pm from February 21 to March 10, on Thursdays, Sundays and Tuesdays.

The second set of workshops, the Isfahan Persian Painting, would be run by Sharareh Salehi, painter and critique of Persian painting.

Her presentations would be more interactive, including a documentary screening explaining this art form, produced by the Teheran Museum of Contemporary Art, followed by an open discussion with the participants, focusing on Persian painting styles and techniques in the general context of Iranian culture. Salehi’s workshops would take place daily from 11am from February 20 to March 10.
