In a bid to provide a platform for key stakeholders involved in managing the region’s coastal zones to discuss solutions to coastal degradation across the MENA region, Reed Exhibitions is organising a conference under the theme “Sustainable Management for Coastal Zones”. The Ministry of Environment and Water is the main partner of the event.

The conference will be held in parallel with the ‘Environment 2009 Exhibition’, on January20-21at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. Both the events will be held under the patronage of The President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Currently, more than 40 per cent of the world’s population lives within 100km of the coast, a number that is expected to continue rising in the region and around the world.

The conference will focus on environmental solutions for water, waste and air pollution treatment in the MENA region. Speakers from the UAE and across the globe will share their expertise and will discuss sustainable solutions for the affected sectors.

Among the topics to be discussed are governmental policies related to the management of air, water and waste; challenges and practical solutions in environmental management; strategic planning in air quality management and the role of public-private partnerships in the sector. A number of case studies will also be presented at the conference.
