‘Absconding’ driver held in Buraimi
ABU DHABI — The Traffic Investigation Department of Abu Dhabi Police has arrested the driver of a heavy-duty vehicle who had fled after causing the death of a worker at a construction site in the Madinat Khalifa area of Abu Dhabi.
According to the police, while reversing his vehicle the driver had run over one of the labourers at the site.
He later fled and moved around the country. He, however, did manage to escape to the border town of Al Buraimi in the Sultanate of Oman.
According to Lt. Hamad Salem Al Rashidi from the Traffic Investigation Department, during investigations the police questioned several friends of the accused in order to locate him.
After sustained efforts, the police managed to track him down in Buraimi. He was arrested with the help of Omani police.
