Martyrs' Day is meant to pay tribute to martyrs, acknowledging them as role models who sacrificed themselves and led the way for other Emirati youth to follow their legacy to defend sovereignty and independence and protect national and cultural gains of the homeland as well as the principles of justice and peace.

Here is poem written by Ramona Singh:

(For those who lay their life so I may live, the brave the SOLDIERS)
I'm a soldier lost in battle but the war is waging still,
Can you hear my comrades bleed as they combat with strong will?
So how would I be remembered as a martyr or a man lost?
If a martyr then what's your tribute to ransom my life's cost.

Fear never gripped my feet when I tread through enemy line,
But the silent thoughts of my loved ones had often struck my mind.
For my country, my land, my people I gladly embraced my grave,
So am I only worth a candle or a day put aside for brave?

Today my mother still cooks for four but sister lays plate for three,
And an empty chair at the table keeps reminding my father of me.
I may lay in peace forever yet their tears would inflict my soul
Then is it just to trade this loss with a moment of your condole?

You become cold-hearted each day towards our country and our kin,
And hide the truth behind reasons to cover the monster within.
Yet I pledged to protect this people and to uphold that pledge I died,
So is it not rightfully mine to ask you to keep your differences aside?

Spare me a tear, a sigh or a sympathy that is fake,
Only promise a life of brotherhood if you are willing to repay my ache.
Bring me that which is pure, a true patriot heart to atone,
Like what you'd do if the deceased would have been one of your own.

Blood is life its redemption it sets a bondage free,
And although I spilled it all must it fail to bring you peace.
So then how must I be remembered as a martyr or a man lost?
If a martyr then let your tribute be an earnest ransom for my life's cost.
