A solution to workers’ housing problem

A READER, A. Cotti, has come up with a fine solution to the problem of residential accommodation for workers who are reported to be living in cramped labour camps. He has suggested that municipalities build residential complexes and rent them out to companies.

These complexes have to be constructed in modern style and should have all facilities including entertainment. Cotti feels the cost of constructing these complexes would be less than what the companies would incur to provide comparable accommodation.

There should be smooth arrangements for transportation of workers and it should be possible at a later stage to have clinics, supermarkets and playgrounds in these residential complexes to serve the large number of workers.

Companies, which have some time ago constructed residential buildings for their employees and do not face any serious problem, should maintain these accommodations and need not move their staff to the new complexes.
