The youngsters, members of the Summer Centres of Massafi Sports Club and Rumaitha Al Ansariyya Summer Centre for Girls, held aloft the UAE flag and portraits of Shaikh Zayed, the founder of UAE. They also carried portraits of his successor the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The walkathon, which started from the main gate of Massafi Sports Club, was organised by the administration of the Summer Centre at Massafi Sports Club in collaboration with Rumaitha Al Ansariyya Summer Centre for Girls.
The procession was spearheaded by Saif Hammad Al Zaabi, representative of the General Authority of Sports and Youth Welfare and Captain Saeed Rashid Al Sharqi, Acting Director of Massafi Police Station in Fujairah. Other officials who took part in the procession included Rashid Mohammed Salem, Director of the Summer Centre at Massafi Sports Club.
A large number of residents from the region and senior citizens also took part in the walkathon, the first of its kind to be held in Massafi.
The participants trekked nearly two km before culminating in Massafi roundabout, where they went into a formation to spell Shaikh Zayed. Folk dances and shows on the heritage, which was Shaikh Zayed's focus, were also staged.
