Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), an agency of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), and the Dubai Shopping Malls Group (DSMG) have announced the second phase of the campaign, ‘Eid in Dubai - Eid Al Fitr’ and Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) that will run till September.
The promotion is part of the ‘Summer is Dubai’ campaign by DFRE, This raffle promotion offers shoppers the opportunity to win prizes worth a whopping Dh4 million.
The upcoming raffle draw, ‘Eid in Dubai’ gives shoppers a chance to win prizes worth Dh2 million in cash and gift vouchers.
Shoppers can get the raffle coupons by spending Dh200 at any of the participating malls in the Eid season. Started on July 15 and continuing till the last day of Eid, the promotion will see one lucky shopper win Dh500,000 and five others shopping vouchers worth Dh25,000. An additional raffle will be held on July 26 with five winners walking away with prizes worth Dh25,000.
The final leg of the campaign, DSS, will see a few lucky shoppers win six BMW luxury cars and Dh500,000 in shopping vouchers between August 2 and September 5.
Eid in Dubai
Numerous malls, stores and souqs across Dubai as well as popular leisure and entertainment hotspots are gearing up to welcome residents and visitors during the seventh edition of ‘Eid in Dubai – Eid Al Fitr’.
Launched in 2008, it is a social campaign aimed at giving an insight into Islamic values and Emirati traditions during Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha, with the ultimate goal of promoting the true spirit of Dubai’s multicultural environment under the theme “United in Celebration”.
The spectrum ranges from world-class entertainment shows to rewarding shopping sprees that offer every mall-goer the opportunity to refurbish their designer wardrobes, home décor, homeware, electronics goods and more.
This year, the entertainment agenda includes world premieres of the Angry Birds Universe Interactive Experience at Modhesh World, The Decepticon Clone TRANSFORMERS live show at BurJuman, and Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure, in addition to a lively calendar of not-to-be-missed musical shows and family-oriented events.
One of the highlights of the celebrations will be a spectacular shower of fireworks at 9pm at Dubai Creek (Al Seef Street) during all three days of Eid.
Modhesh World extravanganza
Modhesh World offers a line-up of family fun during Eid in Dubai -Eid Al Fitr. Besides hosting the world premiere of Angry Birds Universe, it has a range of interactive and themed activities that will continue until September 8.
Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment and the organisers of Modhesh World have partnered with international character licensors including Rovio, Sanrio and Hasbro to bring some of the world’s most popular family entertainment characters to Modhesh World. These include interactive experiences featuring the action heroes from the hit sci-fi TRANSFORMERS, one of the world’s most popular cat, Hello Kitty, and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).
WWE has an extensive fan base across the Middle East. Children above nine years can participate in five experiences, none of which has body contact, including Super Strike.
Themed games and activities in the Lego area will delight the whole family, including Build your own Dubai Skyline. The Duplo area is a soft play pit for children under five. Duplo is a product range of Lego and is designed especially for tiny tots.
Modhesh World, which is celebrating its 15th edition this year, is also offering rides such as Carousel, Chair-O-Plane and Crazy Wave, as well as kiddie bungee jumping, bouncy castle-type inflatables, and video games.
Visitors can also learn more about Emirati culture, cuisine and traditions at the Heritage Zone.
During the Eid holidays, Modhesh World is open from 10am to midnight; thereafter, until September 8, from 10am to 10pm, Saturday to Wednesday; 10am to midnight on Thursday; 3pm to midnight on Friday.
Other attractions
The Winter Wonderland, meant for children above three years, has three ice-themed attractions: An ice rink, figure skating and ice hockey classes.
Indoor target shooting, offered by Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club, is a great alternative to the classic paintball game. With a number of paintballs, players (above nine years) must shoot at targets at the end of the shooting range. Another challenging activity is target archery, where players shoot at the target of coloured rings with arrow tips, specially designed for indoor shooting.
Children of all ages can enjoy water rides at the Water Park with bumper boats, water rollers and pedalos.
High Ropes Adventures has children from nine to 12 years tackling a walkway high in the air, wearing a safety harness.
The Laser Quest sees pre-teens and teenagers, wearing special vests, playing a laser tag game in a maze. Scores are tracked by laser technology on computer. Speciality games include Capture the Modhesh World Flag and Protect the Modhesh World VIP!
Shop for prizes
The 17th edition of Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) brings with it a unique opportunity to enjoy tempting shopping deals and fun-filled, family-oriented entertainment throughout the city. Those participating in Sama Dubai’s ‘Win with DSS’ competition stand the chance to bag 25 prizes daily through DSS while enjoying fabulous discounts on designer apparel, homeware, home décor, electronics goods, and much more.
During the competition, a musician will play popular songs and listeners have to identify the track. Correct answers will enable them to enter the contest.
The hosts of the competition will ask questions related to DSS, educational zones and general questions about the mall as part of the contest.
A rotating wheel featuring various options such as ‘Try Again’, ‘Congratulations, you have won’, etc. will offer contestants another chance to enter the competition.
In addition, visitors can participate in interactive drawing and cupcake-making competitions.
Each day, 25 prizes and gifts will be given away. Of these, 10 will be handed out to mall-goers chosen randomly by Sama Dubai’s TV crew. The remaining 15 will be distributed on stage.
The ‘Win with DSS’ competition will be held from 6pm to 7pm at Ibn Battuta Mall on August 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 14, 15 and 16 and at the Mercato Shopping Mall on August 21, 22, 23, 28, 29, 30 as well as September 4 and 5.
