Jenacio Ybarra, who is in the UAE for four weeks on a work assignment, got more than he bargained for when he recently visited the Gold and Diamond Park and bought an engagement ring to propose to his girlfriend in France, winning a diamond in the first round of the contest. The other winner of the first two rounds of the competition is Lindsey Davidson.

"I can't believe that I have won this lovely diamond," said an excited Jenacio Ybarra, winner of the first of three draws. "I travelled especially from Abu Dhabi to the Gold and Diamond Park to buy an engagement ring for my girlfriend in France. This qualified me for an entry coupon into the competition and the next thing I know I receive a call from GDP to tell me I am a winner," he said.

"I spent some time strolling around GDP's selection of jewellery outlets to look at the different engagement rings they had on offer. I was astounded by the wide selection and eventually decided on a solitaire ring from Damas. Armed with all this information I was able to guess the correct clarity, cut, colour and carat of the promotion diamond sponsored by Clio Jewellers," he explained.

Mohammed Taher Badri, Manager, Gold & Diamond Park, said: "For those who have missed the first two draws, there is still the opportunity of entering the last draw on September 20. Each week we displayed a different diamond. If customers guessed the clarity, colour, carat and cut of the diamond, it was theirs at the end of the week."

In order to enter this competition, visitors to GDP have to spend Dhs300 at the Park, which entitles them to an entry form. Alternatively, the public could take part by listening to Channel 4 FM and Emarat FM.

The draws were done under the supervision of the Dubai Economic Department and assisted by Mr Mohammed Iqbal, manager of Clio Jewellery and Sidbharth Mehta, Manager of Moments Jewellery who sponsored the winning diamond.
