DUBAI/SHARJAH — It will be a fine day today despite a bleak beginning to the weekend yesterday morning with strong gusts of up to 16 knots, blowing dust and hazy skies. The mercury continued to climb well over the 40º Celsius mark.
The hazy conditions did not disrupt any services as the visibility was over 6,000 metres by late afternoon, though driving conditions were bad yesterday due to the blowing dust, and pockets of traffic jams could be seen across Dubai and Sharjah.
The hazy conditions persisted almost throughout the day yesterday, except that the afternoon was warmer with partly cloudy skies. While a maximum temperature of 41º Celsius was recorded yesterday, weathermen predicted a drop of almost 17 degrees by evening to 25º C. No rain was forecast for the night or today morning.
According to the weather offices in Dubai and Sharjah, it is expected to be much cooler today, with a little bit of haze and strong gusts. The conditions are expected to persist for 24 to 36 hours, pushed by a fresh-to-strong Shamal that established offshore late last night.
