78 to move into final round of Quran contest

DUBAI — Seventy-eight of the 227 participants in the Local Holy Quran Competition will be selected for the final round which will be held from February 6 to 12.

Consultant Ibrahim Bu Melha, Chairman of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award, the organisers of the Local Holy Quran Award, said the required arbitration panels for men and women contestants had been constituted.

Engineer Khalifa Al Tunaiji is the head of the arbitration committee for men and Fatimah Hussein Ali Ali, head of the women's committee.

The competitions for men will be held in Al Islah and Social Guidance Society and in the Dubai Women's Association for women.

He said that a total of 227 contestants from different emirates had passed the first round of the competition held by the relevant Holy Quran centres.

"Out of this, 78 will be chosen to participate in the final round of the competition. Currently, the organising committee is holding competitions at different emirates to select the contestants for the finals," he said.

Bu Melha extended gratitude to His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and his wife Her Highness Shaikha Hind bin Maktoum Al Maktoum for sponsoring the local competition.
