According to Obeid Salem Al Shamsi, Assistant Director-General of Dubai Municipality for Administrative Affairs and General Services, the sweep against the law-breakers also resulted in the seizure of several low-quality goods, pirated CDs and live birds.

“The nine inspectors at the Security and Monitoring Unit of the Administrative Affairs Department carry out regular checks," said Al Shamsi.

"In June 2005, they caught a total of 769 people including 431 street vendors, 127 beggars, 202 car washers and nine unauthorised butchers and fish-cleaners,” he added.
