70,000 traffic violations

ABU DHABI — Abu Dhabi Traffic Police issued some 70,000 tickets for traffic violations in July.

According to statistics available with the Traffic and Patrol Department, the number of traffic violations registered by radar, patrol and traffic police was 69,403, with speeding topping the list with 48,900 offences. Parking or stopping in prohibited areas came second recording 4,992 cases. Failing to buckle up recorded 2,203 violations, and 2,030 violations related to obstructing traffic.

The Traffic Department said that during the month, 1551 violations pertaining to parking in front of fire hydrants and areas allocated for the disabled were registered, despite stringent warnings against such violations.

Violations pertaining to failure to observe lane discipline was 694 and usage of mobile phone while driving 604 cases. A total of 596 violations were related to jumping signals and 857 offences related to failing to keep the mandatory safe distance.

The Abu Dhabi Traffic Police affirmed that it would carry on campaigns round the clock daily in the internal and external roads of the capital and its suburbs to ensure safe driving.

The report said nine persons died in accidents in July and 167 were injured.
