Husssain Al Saffar, Director of the Operations and Performance Department at the Marine Agency of the RTA, said these passengers were ferried in 387,706 trips.

“We are heading towards a seven per cent increase in the number of commuters this year from the last year when 28 million people used the motorised abras," he said.

There are two abra lines - the first provides shuttle service between Deira Old Souq Station and Bur Dubai Station from 5am to 12 midnight and the second line provides 24-hour shuttle service between Dubai Old Souq Station and Al Sabkha Station. A total of 15 abras are deployed in this line and the fare is Dh 1 per passenger per trip.

The fare for the tourists is Dh100 per hour from all stations. Rowing abras can be hired at a rate of Dh30 per hour from the Public Library Station or Creek Park Station.

“As many as 149 motorised abras are operating through four stations and five rowing abras are shuttling between the Public Library Station and Creek Park Station," the official pointed out.

“The agency is keen to provide and operate state-of-the-art marine modes and upgrade all marine transport systems, including motorised abras.
