68 people killed in RAK accidents last year

RAS AL KHAIMAH — As many as 68 people were killed in 958 traffic accidents registered in Ras Al Khaimah last year, indicating a rise in the death toll compared to the 60 people killed in car accidents during 2006, said a senior officer from the Traffic and Licensing Department.

Nasser Salem Muradad, head of the RAK Traffic and Licensing Police, said that while 43 people suffered serious injuries, about 1,399 people had sustained moderate and minor injuries. He noted that 678 cases were of car collisions, 159 cases involved overturning incidents and 121 accidents involved vehicles hitting pavements and other obstacles around the roads.
