According to court records, the accused had consumed two bottles of beer before going to his friend's house in Frij Al Murar at 1am on January 11, 2006. His friend Nilly Kuneel, who works as a labourer, opened the door and noted that he smelled of alcohol. He asked Haydroos to go to bed as his other roommates were sleeping. After 15 minutes he heard a shout from Mohamed Kunhi, an accountant, who shared the room.

Kunhi had told Haydroos to keep quiet because he wanted to sleep. Haydroos became angry and allegedly stabbed Kunhi with a knife on the left side of his body and on his right hand. He also allegedly stabbed Kuneel when he tried to restrain Haydroos.

Kuneel later called a police ambulance as Kunhi was bleeding heavily. Kunhi was rushed to Al Baraha Hospital where he underwent surgery.

The forensic medical report said Kunhi was stabbed near the heart and would have to remain in hospital for at least 20 days, while Kuneel suffered minor injuries on his hands.

During police interrogation Haydroos confessed his crime but during court hearing he denied the accusation. He stated that he saw a stranger fighting and stabbing Kunhi and that he had tried to stop the brawl.

Haydroos admitted that he came to the UAE on residence visa four years ago but could not find a job so he worked in part-time jobs with different sponsors.
