61 restaurants fined for violations

ABU DHABI — A total of 3,735 inspection raids were carried out at food outlets by inspectors in Abu Dhabi last month, where they shut down a restaurant for lack of hygienic conditions, a monthly report issued by the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) says.|

The report adds that fines were slapped on 61 restaurants, bakeries and cafes for various violations, and 1,075 outlets were issued warnings.|

Mohammed Jalal Al Raiyaiseh, Director of Communications and Information at the ADFCA, said 28,000 tons of foodstuffs were destroyed during the same period. The Department of Meat Inspection had destroyed 10.239kg of meat, which was unsuitable for human consumption.|

Raiyaiseh added that five butcheries were closed down for violating food safety specifications of the ADFCA.|

The official also said that 70,000 tonnes of food products, in addition to 5,300 tonnes of poultry, fish and meat, were imported into the capital via different entry points last month.
