The camp was held simultaneously in all GMC hospitals in Ajman, Sharjah and Fujairah from 9am to 4pm on June 20.

Akbar Moideen Thumbay, director, Healthcare Operations of Thumbay Group, said the camp was being held regularly for the past many years as part of the group’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.

“We hold it twice a year, in June and September, and serve the needy. We strongly believe that healthy people make healthy nations and hence we contribute our might to address health issues regularly through such camps.”

A team of specialist doctors, consultants, nurses and volunteers conducted free consultations and checkups in Cardiology, Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Gynaecology, Paediatrics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Dermatology, Family Medicine, Urology, Nephrology, Gastroenterology, and Dental specialties.

Thumbay said free checkups for blood pressure, blood sugar and BMI (body mass index) were also carried out to create awareness about diabetes and hypertension.

“The visitors were also offered free medicines besides the 50 per cent discount for laboratory and radiology (X-ray, CT, Ultrasound etc) investigations. Patients can avail follow-up checkups free in the next 15 days.”

Many cases in Internal Medicine, Paediatrics and Dermatology were reported owing to the changes in weather conditions. “There was a distinct increase in dental cases also this year.”
