The 10th Mass Wedding for 2005 is being organised by the Marriage Fund in conjunction with Ras Al Khaimah Hotel.

According to Obaid Rashid Al Zahmi, Director-General of Marriage Fund, a ceremony to mark the event will be held in Ras Al Khaimah Hotel, which is sponsoring the mass wedding and will provide the necessary financial support.

The Marriage Fund, through such mass weddings, aims at achieving continued interaction between all segments of society, he said, adding that it also aims at raising awareness among the people on family and marriage issues by stressing on the need to minimise marriage expenses. Mass weddings had become a civilised and social phenomenon, which epitomised the sense and spirit of solidarity and cooperation among members of society.

Al Zahmi called on the youth who were planning to tie the knot not to hesitate in joining the queues of brides and grooms. Tying the nuptial bond in mass wedding is in response to the instructions of our sagacious leadership, which has always been calling for avoiding extravagance and lavish spending in marriages, he said.

He also urged private sector establishments and philanthropists in the country to contribute towards alleviating the suffering and hardship of the youth by sponsoring mass weddings.

The fund urged nationals interested in joining the forthcoming mass wedding to get their names registered with the Marriage Fund in Ras Al Khaimah. Priority will be given to old applicants date-wise and based on date of approval. Registrations will close as soon as the required number is met.
