Another batch of 50 new cars are expected to join the fleet soon, said Colonel Abdul Jalil Mehdi, Director of General Department of Preventive Security at Dubai Police, said.

Mehdi told Khaleej Times said Dubai Police is keen on increasing the number of police patrol teams which play a key role in ensuring security in the emirate.

Police patrol teams are mostly deployed in areas with high crime rates.

The police conduct studies about the type and rate of crimes through a performance rating programme. In accordance with this data, the authorities decide on the number of patrol personnel to be deployed in each area, Mehdi said.

The Bur Dubai area has the largest number of police patrol vehicles deployed, considering the large number of residents and the high crime rate.

Besides, patrol teams also focus on commercial areas, near educational institutions and in areas with high traffic accident rates. The patrol personnel also make rounds to monitor and streamline traffic movement, he said.
