ABU DHABI — Inspections carried out by the Ministry of Labour (MoL) at 843 establishments in the emirate of Abu Dhabi this month resulted in the arrest of 38 violators of the labour law.
Assistant Undersecretary in the MoL Obaid Rashid Al Zahmi said legal action will be taken against the defaulting establishments and the names of defaulters will be published in the media.
Among the violators were 19 people on local sponsorship working as housemaids, drivers and farmers. Eleven people were arrested after they were found working for establishments other than the original firms which provided them labour cards. Two workers, who were on their parents’ sponsorships, were caught without possession of labour cards.
Also arrested were five labourers who were employed in government departments but were found violating the law by working in the private sector, Al Zahmi said.
